Typical Installation
To determine the appropriate components for your installation, please refer to our Typical Venting Installation drawings. Please refer to the following download links for more information regarding Typical Installations.

Planning Your Installation:
Determining Pipe Length and Support
For vertical gas stove installations, begin by measuring the distance from the stove outlet to the ceiling. This measurement will help you determine the required length of black pipe. Your next step is to choose between a ceiling support/wall thimble cover or a cathedral ceiling support box for the installation.
To calculate the length of galvanized pipe needed, measure the thickness of the ceiling and the vertical rise in the attic or second story. Firestops are essential at each floor level beyond the initial ceiling support/wall thimble cover or cathedral ceiling support box. If an obstruction necessitates an offset, use a pair of 45° elbows. Ensure proper support by utilizing elbow straps for offsets and wall straps for extended vertical runs. Don't forget to incorporate an attic Insulation Shield if the installation passes through an attic space.
Roof Pitch and Termination
Take into account the roof pitch and select the appropriate flashing and storm collar. Determine the minimum height required above the roof for proper venting.
For horizontal installations, refer to the appliance manufacturer's instructions for the minimum rise and maximum horizontal run specifications. If height constraints impede adequate rise above the appliance, consider employing a snorkel termination. Additionally, choose the suitable Horizontal Termination Cap as specified in the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions. To protect vinyl siding, opt for a vinyl siding standoff. Always review the appliance manufacturer's guidelines for wall thimble and firestop prerequisites.
Design Recommendations
We offer these design recommendations as general guidelines to aid in selecting the right venting components for your installation. Please adhere to DuraVent's Installation instructions included with the cap or support box before commencing your chimney system installation. You can find detailed installation instructions online at www.duravent.com under Catalogs and Instructions. It's crucial to check the manufacturer's rating plate and instruction manual to confirm that the DuraVent direct vent system is approved for use with your specific brand-name appliance.
-
Match Pipe Diameters: Ensure that both inner and outer pipe diameters align with the outlet size of your appliance.
-
Follow Appliance Guidelines: Refer to the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions to confirm the permitted vent configurations (e.g., horizontal, vertical, chimney reline) and any restrictions such as maximum horizontal run, minimum and maximum vertical rise, and maximum offset.
-
Prioritize Safety: Maintain the minimum clearances (air-space) specified in the appliance manufacturer's installation instructions between the vent pipe and nearby combustible materials. Utilize appropriate support and bracing, adhere to local building codes, and schedule inspections for your venting system to ensure fire safety and compliance.
